Jabalpur, 30th April.
A BJP leader based in Jabalpur, known for his anti-drug efforts, was seriously injured in a stabbing by three men due to an old feud, as reported by the police on Monday.

The injured BJP leader, Mangal Siddique (42), is now in stable condition, and all three attackers were taken into custody on Monday, according to Vijay Kumar Vishwakarma, the in-charge of Adhartal Police Station, as told to PTI.

The incident occurred late Sunday night in the Adhartal Police Station area of Jabalpur city, Madhya Pradesh, the police stated.

The three suspects, identified as Wasim Ali, Wasim Bangar, and Monu Ansari, all aged between 30 to 35 years, were apprehended shortly after the assault. Siddique sustained an injury near his throat during the attack, Vishwakarma mentioned.

The victim was initially taken to a local hospital and later transferred to the Medical College and Hospital in Jabalpur for further treatment, he added.

The police suspect that the attack stemmed from an old grudge, but a thorough investigation is underway, Vishwakarma stated.

“We are interrogating the suspects and looking into all aspects of the case,” Vishwakarma said.

The accused have been charged under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code for attempted murder, he confirmed.

Meanwhile, former BJP president of Jabalpur city, GS Thakur, informed the media that Siddique is known for his anti-drug activism and had organized protests against the illegal drug trade in the city.

“He is a respected member of our party and a former sub-district president. It is possible that he was targeted due to his strong stance against drug dealers,” Thakur stated.

“This attack is an assault on those who speak out against the illegal drug trade. BJP members are outraged by the assault on Siddique,” Thakur added.
