New Delhi, 30th April. The Uttarakhand government has taken stringent action against Baba Ramdev’s Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd., suspending manufacturing licenses for 14 of their products due to repeated violations of drug advertising laws.
In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the Uttarakhand government revealed that it has granted permission to file a complaint against the aforementioned entities for breaching the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which regulates drug advertisements. The State Licensing Authority has issued a public notice warning of strict disciplinary and legal action against violations, including fines and imprisonment.
The affidavit further disclosed that the State Licensing Authority has suspended manufacturing licenses for 14 Patanjali products, including ‘Swasari Gold’, ‘MuktaVati Extra Power’, and ‘Patanjali Drishti Eye Drop’.
Additionally, a criminal complaint has been filed against key figures associated with Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd., including Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, under Sections 3, 4, and 7 of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
This development follows the Supreme Court’s order for officials to explain their inaction regarding the violations. The Indian Medical Association had previously raised concerns about Patanjali’s advertisements violating the law by claiming medicinal efficacy against diseases like diabetes and heart conditions.
Patanjali had previously assured the Supreme Court that it would refrain from making unsubstantiated claims about its products and would comply with all regulations regarding drug advertisements.
