Maharashtra Day, also known as Maharashtra Diwas, commemorates the linguistic division of the “Bombay” state into two states: Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Bombay Reorganization Act went into effect on May 1, 1960, as a result of many protests and movements calling for the establishment of a separate state.
