Silchar, 17th April.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Centre today during her campaign rally in Silchar, Assam. Accusing the government of being comprised of “rioters, bluffers, and looters,” Banerjee questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ability to deliver justice to the people.

Addressing a crowd gathered on behalf of Trinamool Congress candidate Radheshyam Biswas in Silchar, Banerjee questioned the credibility of PM Modi’s promises. “You think Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give you justice?” she challenged.

Silchar, a constituency with a history of alternating between Congress and BJP representation, has witnessed a shift in dynamics with the entry of Trinamool Congress into the fray. The BJP’s sitting legislator Rajdeep Roy faces competition from Assam minister Parimal Suklabadya, while the Congress has fielded senior leader Surya Kanta Sarkar.

Banerjee warned of a contentious election ahead, criticizing the government’s approach. “You have not seen an election as tainted as this. It’s a government of the agency, for the agency and by the agency,” she asserted.

Referring to the ethnic violence in neighboring Manipur, Banerjee cast doubt on PM Modi’s commitment to justice. “You think Modi will give you justice? Do you believe in this?” she questioned, labeling the government as “riotous” and “deceptive.”

Amidst Assam’s unease over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Banerjee reiterated her opposition to its implementation, a key promise in the Trinamool manifesto. She highlighted the sensitivity of Assam to issues of illegal migration from Bangladesh and emphasized her resolve to prevent CAA implementation in Bengal.

Banerjee called for unity, positioning the Trinamool Congress as the leader of the opposition against the BJP at the national level. “Alliance means Trinamool Congress,” she declared, pledging to lead the “INDIA alliance” and provide an alternative to BJP’s dominance.
