Guwahati, 9th Oct. On the final day of his three-day visit to Assam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered prayers at the famous Kamakhya Temple, one of 51 Shakti Peethas, atop the Nilachal Hills.

Shah arrived at the temple with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika from the State Guest House.

The Union minister and Sarma made their way to the temple’s sanctum sanctorum, where they offered prayers to the deity with the assistance of three priests.

After spending more than ten minutes inside, Shah performed a ‘parikrama’ (circumambulation) of the temple, which is the focal point of the Tantrik Shaktism cult in India.

Senior ‘Dolois’ (priests) and Kamakhya Devalaya office bearers greeted him at the temple.

The Union Home Minister greeted devotees at the temple before departing for the Assam Administrative Staff College, where he was slated to address the North Eastern Council’s 70th Plenary session (NEC).

He arrived in Assam on Friday evening and presided over a meeting on flood-free Assam attended by the Chief Minister and senior officials. He also attended a meeting of the BJP’s core committee, which was presided over by party President J P Nadda.

In two separate events on Saturday, he inaugurated the newly built state BJP office and addressed party workers alongside Nadda.

In the evening, he presided over a regional meeting on drug trafficking and national security, a North East Space Application Centre (NESAC) review meeting, and attended a cultural function at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalalshetra here.
