New Delhi, 30th April.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a political rally in Karnataka’s Bagalkot, said that he had informed Pakistan about the 2019 Balakot air strikes before revealing it to the rest of the world.

Modi emphasized that he believes in facing challenges openly and does not engage in attacks from behind.

He explained, “I instructed the military to inform the media about the airstrikes, but I made sure to inform Pakistan first via telephone about the night-time airstrikes and the resulting damage. However, Pakistan did not respond to the call. So, I instructed the forces to wait. After informing Pakistan, we then made the airstrikes public.”

PM Modi highlighted that he is transparent in his actions and does not engage in covert operations.

He issued a warning to those who threaten innocent lives in India, stating, “This is the New India. We will retaliate within the enemy’s territory.”

Modi also mentioned that after the air strikes in Pakistan, there was initial confusion as some people thought the strikes occurred in Bagalkot, a district in Karnataka with a similar name.

India conducted the air strikes in Balakot on February 26, 2019, in response to the Pulwama terror attack.

India’s Response Following the Balakot Strikes

After the Balakot strikes, India announced that a significant number of JeM terrorists, trainers, senior commanders, and groups of jihadis were eliminated in the operation.

The Ministry of External Affairs revealed that the Balakot facility was led by Maulana Yusuf Azhar, also known as Ustad Ghauri, who is the brother-in-law of JeM chief Masood Azhar.

India received credible intelligence indicating that JeM was planning another suicide terror attack in various parts of the country, prompting the preemptive strike to prevent the imminent danger.

The statement clarified that the non-military preemptive action specifically targeted the JeM camp to avoid civilian casualties, as the facility was located in a remote area away from civilian presence.
