Indore, 29th April. The unexpected turn of events in the Indore Lok Sabha constituency has left the Congress party reeling as its candidate, Akshay Kanti Bam, switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by withdrawing his nomination papers.
Amidst the confusion surrounding Bam’s move, murmurs within the Congress circles suggest that party workers had voiced concerns about his reliability prior to his departure.
Expressing dismay, a visibly perturbed Congress worker lamented the leadership’s decision to overlook warnings about Bam’s potential defection to the BJP. He recounted how he had cautioned senior party leaders that Bam’s candidacy could lead to exactly the situation that unfolded.
“I had warned them right from the start, indicated to our leaders, do not give a ticket to Akshay Bam. Give to a loyal party worker, somebody like me. I’d fight the election with all my might,” the disillusioned party worker asserted.
He further emphasized the significance of party loyalty, stressing, “They should realize the wealth of Congress is their party workers.” His disillusionment stemmed from the belief that Bam’s departure was inevitable due to his financial ties and alleged susceptibility to pressure from the BJP.
The disgruntled worker’s sentiments echoed a broader sentiment among party loyalists, who feel sidelined in favor of candidates with financial clout.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya welcomed Bam into the BJP fold, underscoring the growing exodus from the Congress ranks.
Taking a swipe at the Congress, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan remarked on the party’s diminishing appeal, noting, “The condition of the Congress has become such that even candidates do not want to be within its party.”
Against this backdrop, the political landscape in Indore remains turbulent as voters gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on May 13. With the state witnessing polling across four phases, the outcome holds significant implications for the political dynamics of Madhya Pradesh.
