UNITED NATIONS, 30th April.  World Food Programme head Cindy McCain on Monday said that rising violence is restricting humanitarian aid delivery in the Darfur region of Sudan.

WFP supported over 300,000 people there with food, including 40,000 in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.

“We must be able to reach those who need us most in Sudan,” Executive Director Cindy McCain wrote in a post on social media.

UN Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator Martin Griffiths warned that an escalation of hostilities there would be “catastrophic”

He wrote on social media that civilians in El Fasher are struggling to survive hunger and deprivation and they must be spared from violence.

El Fasher has 330,000 people facing acute food insecurity, and nearly half of its residents are internally displaced.
