Madhya Pradesh, 28th April.
In the midst of the mangalsutra issue, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made a jab at Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, questioning how she could still be a Gandhi after marrying Robert Vadra.

“Our custom states that the girl adds her in-laws’ last name to her name as soon as she marries. What makes Priyanka Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, a Gandhi? They’re all imposters of Gandhi. They merely wish to collect votes in Gandhi’s honor,” Yadav was cited by the news agency PTI.
Yadav attacked the party national secretary during a poll-bound public gathering in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, claiming that even Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the former prime minister, must be crying in his grave because his granddaughter has got married and hasn’t worn a mangalsutra.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusation last week that Congress was preparing to give the people’s hard-earned money and assets to “infiltrators” and “those who have more children” set off a political slugfest.

The Congress, according to PM Modi, was thinking like the Urban Naxals. My sisters and mothers, they won’t even take off from your “mangalsutra.” They’ll make it this far,” he continued. Opposition leaders, including Jairam Ramesh, Priyanka Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Farooq Abdullah, criticized PM Modi’s statement when it sparked a controversy. Numerous politicians said that PM Modi never showed reverence for the holy thread.

In addition, Priyanka Gandhi attacked the Prime Minister, claiming that her mother Sonia Gandhi gave up her “mangalsutra” for the nation—a reference to her father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, being assassinated.

“What discussions are taking place in this nation? There were remarks two days ago claiming that Congress intended to take your “mangalsutra.” Congress has been in power for 55 of the 75 years that our country has been free. At a rally in Bengaluru, Vadra was cited by PTI as asking, “Did Congress ever snatch your gold or ‘mangalsutra’?”
