New Delhi, 29th April.
The Delhi Police has registered a case in response to a doctored video circulating on social media platforms. The video shows Union Home Minister Amit Shah supposedly calling for the elimination of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). This video has caused controversy and accusations of spreading false information, leading the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to file a complaint seeking action against those responsible.

Following concerns raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about the video’s authenticity, the Delhi Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday. The BJP claims that the video has been edited to distort Mr. Shah’s original statements made during a political rally.

According to BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya, the video has been altered to misrepresent Mr. Shah’s comments on reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana.

Malviya stated, “Congress is spreading a fake edited video that has the potential to incite violence. Home Minister Amit Shah was discussing removing unconstitutional reservation for Muslims based on religion, after reducing the share of SCs/STs and OBCs. Several Congress spokespersons have shared this fake video and they may face legal consequences.”

The controversy surrounding the video intensified as various social media accounts, including those affiliated with the Congress, shared the manipulated footage, claiming it exposed the BJP’s plan to eliminate SC/ST reservation quotas. BJP leaders have strongly criticized these claims, accusing the Congress of spreading false information that could lead to social unrest.

The MHA has submitted a detailed report with its complaint, identifying the links and accounts responsible for sharing the doctored video of the Home Minister.

Now that the FIR has been filed, the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell has initiated an investigation into the origins of the fabricated video.
