BJP Leader Arrested for Slapping Polling Official During Tripura Elections

 A Tripura BJP leader was arrested for allegedly assaulting a presiding officer at a polling station during phase 2 polls for Tripura East constituency. The incident occurred on Friday and was captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

In the video, Kajal Das, the president of BJPs North Tripura district, can be seen slapping the polling official. Additionally, several other unidentified individuals were also seen attacking the officer at polling station number 22 of the Bagbasa assembly constituency.

A complaint was filed against Kajal Das by the assistant returning officer of Dharmanagar, as confirmed by a senior police official.

Jayanta Debnath, the officer in-charge of Kadamtala police station where the case was registered, mentioned that an investigation was carried out based on reports from sector officers, micro observers, and the viral video.

He stated that a case has been filed under sections 353, 332, and 131 of the Representation of Peoples Act, as well as section 34 of the IPC. Debnath emphasized that the legal process will proceed accordingly, and the police have already obtained the viral video for clear identification of Kajal Das.
