Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack at the Congress following the circulation of a deep-fake video portraying him discussing the removal of reservations. The video, which went viral, prompted swift action, with the arrest of a Congress worker, Reetam Singh, from Assam’s Guwahati, on charges of creating and disseminating the fabricated footage.

The manipulated video depicted Shah purportedly advocating for the abolition of all reservations, whereas his actual remarks pertained to the removal of quotas solely for Muslims on religious grounds in Telangana. It’s worth noting that the BJP had previously abolished such a quota in Karnataka before relinquishing power to the Congress.

During a press conference today, Shah countered the false narrative by showcasing both the genuine and doctored videos, clarifying his stance.

He reiterated the BJP’s commitment to preserving reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, emphasizing it as “Modi’s guarantee.”

Opposition parties have seized on the BJP’s electoral slogan “abki baar 400 paar,” alleging it as indicative of the party’s ambition to secure 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, thus obtaining the parliamentary strength to potentially dismantle quotas for ST, SC, and OBC communities.
