PM Modi will hold an important and urgent meeting today regarding this i.e. on Saturday.

The meeting will be attended by top officials of the central government, including officials of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). A day before on Friday (May 13), IMD said that the pressure zone in the Arabian Sea is expected to turn into a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ on May 17 and cross the Gujarat coast a day later.

The IMD further said that the weather condition has turned into a zone of deep pressure and is likely to turn into a cyclonic storm ‘Tauktae’ by Saturday morning. It is likely to turn into a very severe cyclonic storm by Saturday night.

IMD’s Cyclone Warning Division said that between 16-19 May it is likely to turn into a “very severe cyclonic storm” with winds of 150–160 kmph. Winds may also vary in speed up to 175 km / h.

The Department has alerted the western coastal state and deployed 53 teams of NDRF for relief and rescue operations. Myanmar has given the name “Tauktae” to the storm, which means ‘lizard’. This year it will be the first cyclonic storm off the Indian coast.
