Govt Doctors End Indefinite Strike After State Assurances

Chandigarh, 27th July. The indefinite strike by government doctors in Haryana concluded on Saturday after the state government agreed to meet their demands. The doctors resumed their duties following the agreement.

The decision to end the strike came after a crucial meeting between the protesting doctors and Amit Aggarwal, Additional Principal Secretary to the Haryana Chief Minister, late on Friday. Dr. Rajesh Khyalia, president of the Haryana Civil Medical Services Association, confirmed the strike’s termination, stating that the government had agreed to address their demands and promised to notify the changes before August 15.

The doctors had been advocating for several key changes, including a career progression scheme to align with central government peers, a reduction in the bond amount for postgraduate course admissions from Rs 1 crore to Rs 50 lakh, and the establishment of a specialist cadre.

The strike, which began on Thursday, involved around 3,000 government doctors and disrupted medical services across state-run hospitals in Haryana. The resolution followed multiple discussions between the association’s representatives and state officials, including Rajesh Khullar, Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, and Sudhir Rajpal, Additional Chief Secretary (Health).
