New Delhi, 21st March.
The Election Commission instructed the Karnataka chief electoral officer to promptly address the DMK’s complaint regarding alleged violations of the model code by Union minister and BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje on Wednesday.

The poll panel also requested a report on compliance within 48 hours.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has called for action against Karandlaje for suggesting that a person from Tamil Nadu was behind the IED blast at the Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru on March 1.

In their complaint to the Election Commission earlier that day, the DMK stated that the minister’s remarks unfairly portrayed the people of Tamil Nadu as extremists.

During a protest in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Karandlaje claimed that law and order in Karnataka had worsened, attributing incidents like bomb planting to people from Tamil Nadu, pro-Pakistan slogans to those from Delhi, and acid attacks to individuals from Kerala. She later apologized and retracted her statements.

The Madurai police have charged her with inciting hatred between different groups, while her comments have been strongly criticized by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and other DMK leaders.
