New Delhi, 13th May. The Supreme Court has directed Delhi, UP and Haryana to provide free dry rations to the migrant workers stranded in the districts in the NCR, to run community kitchens for them and to arrange transport (rail or bus) for the migrants who want to go to their homes.

The Supreme Court said that this community kitchen should be built around the industrial area, bus stand, railway station, where a large number of migrant workers live. The Supreme Court said that officials should ensure that private bus operators do not charge exorbitant fare from migrant laborers returning home. The Center should consider involving railways to facilitate transportation to them.

A bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah said these things during the hearing of the petition of three activists. The petition has requested the States and the Center to direct the state to ensure food security, cash transfer, transport facilities and other welfare measures for migrant laborers suffering due to lockdown in many parts of the country amid the epidemic.
