Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent allegations of “minority appeasement,” accusing him of resorting to divisive rhetoric for electoral gains. Kharge alleged that both PM Modi and the BJP’s ideological mentor, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), harbor a “hidden agenda.”
Reacting to PM Modi’s remarks, Kharge condemned them as “unfortunate,” asserting that the Congress has no hidden agenda and that its manifesto is transparent in its policies. He accused PM Modi of aligning with the RSS’s stance and misleading the public.
The controversy erupted following PM Modi’s statements regarding the Congress’s purported intentions towards property redistribution and alleged favoritism towards Muslims during Dr. Manmohan Singh’s tenure. Speaking at an event in Rajasthan, PM Modi slammed the Congress manifesto’s proposals, claiming they implied seizure of property, including gold items such as mangalsutras, which he argued are essential to women’s dignity.
Kharge vehemently rejected PM Modi’s interpretation of the Congress manifesto, refuting the claims of property seizure and emphasizing the party’s commitment to women’s empowerment and social justice.
PM Modi’s remarks have ignited a political firestorm, with opposition parties lambasting him and the BJP for alleged fear-mongering and distortion of facts. The Congress and other opposition voices have accused PM Modi of misrepresenting their policies to manipulate public sentiment ahead of elections.
