New Delhi, 29th August. As nationwide protests erupt over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, President Droupadi Murmu expressed her shock and distress on Wednesday. She termed the incident as deeply disheartening and part of a troubling pattern of violence against women.
In a statement, President Murmu condemned the crime, stating, “No civilized society can allow daughters and sisters to be subjected to such atrocities. Enough is enough.”
President Murmu called for a thorough societal introspection, emphasizing the need to confront deeply ingrained attitudes that devalue women.
“Very often, a deplorable mindset views women as lesser beings—less powerful, less capable, and less intelligent,” she said.
She urged for the removal of barriers to allow women to live free from fear, asserting, “We owe it to our daughters to clear the obstacles in their path to freedom from fear.”
