New Delhi, 29th August. A Delhi court has rejected the request from Abhishek Gupta, CEO of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, to access the building where three IAS aspirants tragically drowned in the basement on July 27.
The court’s decision came on Wednesday, with Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nishant Garg stating, “I am of the view that no sufficient ground to direct grant of access to the upper floors of the building is made out. The application is accordingly dismissed.”
The court noted that despite a show-cause notice issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), highlighting the misuse of the premises contrary to the Master Plan for Delhi, no corrective actions were taken.
Additionally, the court observed that no measures were implemented to address the illegal use of the basement, despite a specific complaint from a student, Kishore Singh Kushwaha, on June 26, 2024.
Gupta had sought permission to resume classes on the upper floors of the Old Rajendra Nagar building, excluding the basement. The request was denied amid concerns about the building’s compliance with safety regulations and previous warnings about its misuse.
