Lucknow, 29th August. The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced the ‘UP Digital Media Policy 2024,’ which mandates life imprisonment for individuals posting anti-national or derogatory content on social media. This new policy, approved by the UP cabinet on Tuesday evening, also includes financial incentives for influencers promoting government policies.

Under the policy, advertisements will be provided to eligible visual and digital media firms, as well as influencers active on platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Payments will be based on the number of subscribers and followers these entities have.

A senior state government official stated that the policy aims to effectively disseminate crucial information about public and social welfare schemes and the benefits they offer. Additionally, it seeks to generate employment opportunities for local youth and support digital startups.

The policy emphasizes strict measures against those spreading derogatory, vulgar, or anti-national content, marking a significant shift in the state’s approach to digital media regulation.
