New Delhi, 22nd July. Several events in the country have been either postponed or cancelled due to the global Covid epidemic and the Olympics that will begin in Tokyo on Friday has also not remained untouched from it.
As precautionary measure only 44 Indian players will be able to participate in the opening ceremony of the Olympic games.
The players who are competing the next day have already been asked to stay away from the ceremony. From India only 44-member team, along with six officials, will be at the inaugural function.
We do not want to create a situation that our athletes are afraid of getting infected, said Rajiv Mehta, General Secretary, Indian Olympic Association. That is why it has been decided to reduce the players and officers to 50 at the opening ceremony.
