Kannauj, 11th August. A bizarre case has emerged from Kannauj district where a police officer is under scrutiny after a recording of him demanding a bribe in the form of ‘potatoes’ went viral on social media.
The call, involving Sub-Inspector Ramkripal stationed at Bahbalpur Chapunna police outpost, reveals him asking a person for 5 kilograms of potatoes, a coded term for a bribe.
In the recording, the individual expresses an inability to provide the full amount but agrees to offer 3 kilograms after the officer insists. When the person mentions suffering losses, the officer suggests he should arrange for bail instead.
The conversation ultimately settles on the person providing 2 kilograms of potatoes, with the remaining balance to be addressed later.
Following the circulation of this recording online, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar has suspended the officer and initiated an investigation. The inquiry, led by City Officer Kamlesh Kumar, aims to determine the full extent of the alleged corruption.
The case is currently under review, and further departmental action may follow based on the investigation’s findings.
