Supreme Court Orders to De- Congest the Jails

GG News Bureau

New Delhi, 8th May. The Supreme Court took cognisance on the increasing cases of Corona in the country and gave instructions to reduce the crowds in the jails. The Supreme Court said that prisoners, who were granted bail or parole in the wake of the pandemic last year, should be given that facility again.

A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramanna, Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice Suryakant said that high-powered committees were formed in states and union territories on the orders of the Supreme Court. All the prisoners who were granted bail in March last year by these committees should be given that relief without reconsideration by the committees. This will prevent corona infection further and tide over the pandemic.

The order said, “We direct that the prisoners who were given parole on our earlier orders should be granted the same again for a period of 90 days.”
