Ranchi, 18th August. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday accused the BJP of attempting to “poach” MLAs and “divide society” following speculation that JMM leader Champai Soren might join the saffron party. Soren’s comments came shortly after Champai Soren arrived in Delhi, sparking rumors about his potential defection.
Speaking at a government event in Godda district, Hemant Soren alleged that the BJP was bringing individuals from Gujarat, Assam, and Maharashtra to create discord among tribals, Dalits, backward classes, and minorities. He claimed these actions aimed to incite conflict and undermine social cohesion.
“These people are not just targeting society but are also breaking families and parties. They use money to entice politicians,” Soren said.
Champai Soren, who departed from Kolkata for Delhi, later told reporters he was on a “personal” visit and had not met any BJP leaders. This came amid speculation about his potential move to the BJP.
Hemant Soren also criticized the Election Commission, suggesting it was influenced by the BJP, and challenged the party to face elections immediately, claiming they would be defeated in Jharkhand.
On the same day, Hemant Soren launched the ‘Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana (JMMSY)’ in Pakur district. The scheme aims to provide Rs 1,000 per month to women aged 21-50, benefiting around 50 lakh women across the state. The first installment was transferred to 81,000 beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Soren expressed frustration over delays in implementing the scheme, attributing them to obstructive forces. He noted that if not for these disruptions, the scheme would have been in place a year earlier.
