New Delhi, 13th Jan. The Supreme Court will hear on January 15 the plea of the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) seeking the transfer of petitions against the results of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 from various high courts to the apex court.
The plea, filed through advocate Pritha Srikumar Iyer, involves challenges regarding the results of the CLAT 2025, which were declared on December 7, 2024. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar has listed two separate petitions of the CNLUs for an authoritative pronouncement, aiming to avoid multiple litigations in different high courts.
The matter was raised after a candidate informed a division bench of the Delhi High Court about several petitions pending in various high courts, prompting the transfer plea to the Supreme Court. The Delhi High Court had earlier posted the hearing for January 30.
The controversy stems from a December 20, 2024, order by a Delhi High Court single judge, which directed the consortium to revise the results due to errors in the CLAT 2025 answer key. The single judge had identified two incorrect answers in the entrance test. The order came after a plea from a CLAT aspirant who challenged the published answer key, calling for the correction of certain answers. The court deemed the errors “demonstrably clear” and ruled that ignoring them would be unjust.
While the aspirant challenged the single judge’s order on other questions, the consortium filed an appeal against the decision. On December 24, 2024, the division bench of the Delhi High Court refused to grant any interim relief but allowed the consortium to declare the results based on the single judge’s decision regarding the two disputed questions.
The CLAT 2025, conducted for admissions to five-year LLB courses in National Law Universities, was held on December 1, 2024, and the results were declared on December 7.
