Thackeray Slams Union Govt for Delaying DB Patil Airport Naming Proposal

Mumbai, 13th Jan. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Monday expressed his frustration over the Union government’s delay in approving the proposal to name the Navi Mumbai airport after late leader DB Patil. The proposal, which was sent to the Union government in June 2022, remains pending despite repeated reminders over the last three years.

In a post on X, Thackeray highlighted that on the birth anniversary of DB Patil, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had decided to name the airport “Loknete Swargiya DB Patil International Airport” and had sent the recommendation to the Union government. However, the proposal is yet to receive approval.

Thackeray questioned whether such delays were typical for the BJP-led Central government or if the delay was a deliberate attempt to insult Maharashtra. He added that despite the repeated written reminders to the Civil Aviation Ministry, the matter remains unresolved.

Thackeray also called on Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu to approve the proposal on the occasion of DB Patil’s birth anniversary, showing respect to the late leader. Additionally, he raised concerns about another delayed proposal — the naming of the airport at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, which has been pending with the Union government since 2020.
