New Delhi, 15th August. Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a fiery Independence Day speech from the ramparts of Delhi’s Red Fort on Thursday, sharply attacking his critics and rivals. In a pointed rebuke, the Prime Minister labeled his detractors as “full of negativity” and accused them of hindering India’s growth.

“Some people do not want to see India grow,” Modi declared. He condemned the prevalence of “nepotism and casteism” in politics, attributing societal harm to these issues. His comments were widely interpreted as veiled attacks on the Congress party and its leadership, particularly the Gandhi family, whom the BJP frequently accuses of dynastic politics.

PM Modi also addressed corruption, vowing to instill fear in the corrupt and halt the “tradition of looting the common man.” This pledge follows the BJP’s recent victory in the national elections, where the party secured a third consecutive term despite falling short of an outright majority. The Prime Minister promised continued action against corruption, emphasizing that federal agencies had been given “full freedom” to act.

The speech comes on the heels of a contentious parliamentary session, marked by clashes between the government and opposition over various issues, including the Waqf Bill, rising living costs, and the disqualification of wrestler Vinesh Phogat from the Paris Olympics. Additionally, the debate over the Union Budget, with Congress accusing the BJP of copying its manifesto, has intensified tensions.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defended the budget in Parliament, countering opposition claims about favoritism towards BJP-ruled states. She highlighted past budget allocations, questioning whether previous governments had adequately addressed state needs.
