PM Modi Mourns Demise of Legal Doyen Fali S Nariman

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday condoled the demise of legal doyen Fali S Nariman, acknowledging his lifelong commitment to ensuring justice for all.

The revered advocate and legal doyen, Fali S Nariman, breathed his last in Delhi on Wednesday at the age of 95, after battling multiple health issues, including cardiac ailments. Taking to the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to Nariman, stating, “Shri Fali Nariman Ji was among the most outstanding legal minds and intellectuals. He devoted his life to making justice accessible to common citizens.”

Expressing sorrow over Nariman’s demise, the Prime Minister conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family and followers, praying for solace and peace. Modi remarked, “I am pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. May his soul rest in peace.”

Throughout his distinguished legal career, Fali S Nariman left an indelible mark on the Indian legal landscape, representing clients in numerous landmark cases. Notably, he played a pivotal role in arguing before the Supreme Court in significant cases, including the contentious National Judicial Appointments Commission case, which was eventually struck down by the apex court.

Born on January 10, 1929, Nariman served as the Additional Solicitor General from 1972 to 1975, resigning from the post during the Emergency period. Recognizing his exceptional contributions, Nariman was honored with the Padma Bhushan in January 1991, followed by the prestigious Padma Vibhushan in 2007.

His legacy continues through his family, as his son, Rohinton Nariman, served as a judge of the Supreme Court.
