Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates First Skill India Centre in Sambalpur, Odisha

In a significant push towards skill development, Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the first Skill India Centre (SIC) of the country in Sambalpur, Odisha on Tuesday.

The event witnessed the presence of Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Atul Kumar Tiwari, CEO, NSDC and MD, NSDC International Ved Mani Tiwari, along with other dignitaries.

Addressing the youth at the inauguration, Shri Pradhan emphasized the importance of upgrading the skills of the youth in demand-driven industries, aiming to empower over 1200 students through this centre. He highlighted the need for a skilled workforce to propel India’s development journey in the 21st century and stressed on democratizing access to quality education.

The Centre, aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, will equip the youth with employable skills in trades such as Media & Entertainment, Leather, Tourism & Hospitality, and IT-ITeS. It will offer a unique combination of classroom and work-based learning to create an industry-ready workforce, encourage entrepreneurship, and strengthen the skilling ecosystem.

Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and modern facilities, the SIC aims to catalyze demand for formal skills and enable youth to succeed in their respective fields. It will play a pivotal role in designing curriculum aligned with industry needs, promoting standardization, and creating employment opportunities across sectors.

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) will designate a Centre Manager to ensure seamless implementation of training programs and adherence to quality standards. The transformative initiative will open new avenues for education, skill acquisition, and employment linkages.

Following the inauguration, upcoming Skill India Centres in Odisha are scheduled to be inaugurated in Angul, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Talcher, and Deogarh, targeting high economic growth sectors to drive regional development and create sustainable employment opportunities.

Earlier this year, the Union Minister launched the Kaushal Rath initiative, imparting skill training and certification to aspiring candidates across Odisha’s districts. The initiative has already trained 4000 candidates in various course modules, fostering digital literacy, retail, and entrepreneurial skills.

The inauguration of the Skill India Centre in Sambalpur marks a significant step towards empowering the youth and revolutionizing the skilling landscape in India, offering enhanced accessibility, personalized learning experiences, and improved career guidance.
