New Delhi, 25th Jan. President Droupadi Murmu addressed the 15th National Voters’ Day celebrations in New Delhi today, emphasizing India’s unique position as the world’s largest, most inclusive, and sensitive democracy.
During the event, the President honored state and district officials with the Best Electoral Practices Awards for their exemplary contributions to election management. She also received the first copy of the book “India Votes 2024: A Saga of Democracy” from Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
In her address, President Murmu hailed India’s democratic legacy and its influence on global election systems, stating that the increasing participation of women in elections reflects societal progress. She commended the Election Commission for initiatives to include senior citizens, differently-abled voters, and tribal communities in remote areas, setting an example of inclusive and sensitive election management.
The President underscored the ideals of voting, urging citizens to rise above discrimination and uphold their democratic responsibilities. She encouraged adherence to the Voters’ Pledge, which inspires a commitment to fair and unbiased participation in elections.
Observed annually since 2011, National Voters’ Day marks the foundation of the Election Commission of India, aiming to inspire voter awareness and active engagement in democracy.
