Foreign Policy magazine has recently profiled Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi for his significant role in shaping the United States’ China policy from within Congress.

The magazine specifically highlighted Krishnamoorthi’s leadership of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, alongside Congressman Mike Gallagher, who chairs the China Committee.

The joint profile focuses on the committee’s establishment in February of this year, with the aim of investigating and formulating policies to address the economic, technological, and security competition between the United States and China’s ruling Communist Party.
Krishnamoorthi, aged 50, made history as the first South Asian to lead a US Congressional Committee as Chair or Ranking Member when he was selected as the Ranking Member.

“In short, this committee represents the core of Congress’s policy agenda on China, granting Gallagher and Krishnamoorthi significant influence over what is widely regarded as the new and defining foreign policy challenge for the United States. The committee’s future focus will provide valuable insights into the direction of US policy,” Foreign Policy stated in the profile.

The article also highlights the positive working relationship between the two congressmen.

“It’s a pleasure to collaborate with Rep Gallagher in directly addressing the challenges posed by the CCP. Our bipartisan efforts have already yielded positive results, and I am excited to see what else we can achieve together in the future,” Krishnamoorthi expressed in a post on X.
