Governors Are Key to Inclusive Development & Public Welfare,” says President Murmu at Conference Conclusion

The two-day Conference of Governors concluded on Saturday at Rashtrapati Bhavan with President Droupadi Murmu commending the collective efforts of the Governors.

In her closing remarks, President Murmu praised the Governors for their valuable ideas and suggestions aimed at improving their offices’ functioning and enhancing public welfare, expressing confidence that these recommendations will be implemented.

The second day of the conference featured presentations from six groups of Governors, outlining their deliberations and future roadmaps before President Murmu, Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah. Vice President Dhankhar noted the lasting impact of the conference’s detailed discussions, emphasizing the importance of Governors maintaining open communication with state governments for effective governance.

Prime Minister Modi urged the Governors to develop an ideal model of governance in Raj Bhavans, emphasizing staff training, embracing technology, and promoting digitization. He highlighted the potential of alumni networks in educational institutions for drug-free campuses and praised the natural farming model suggested by Gujarat’s Governor, Shri Acharya Devvrat, urging its adoption in other Raj Bhavans.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the Governors’ efforts, assuring that actionable points would be addressed to enhance the effectiveness of Governors and Raj Bhavans.

President Murmu emphasized the importance of inclusive and accelerated state development for the country’s overall progress. She stressed the significance of last-mile delivery in public welfare programs, urging Governors to ensure every eligible citizen benefits from such initiatives.

Highlighting women’s participation as crucial for holistic social inclusion, President Murmu encouraged the empowerment of women self-help groups and women-led start-ups. She advised Governors to engage with women entrepreneurs and institutions supporting women’s empowerment.

President Murmu also called for the increased participation of Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes in national development. She supported a sub-group of Governors’ suggestion for proper resource utilization for tribal communities’ welfare and expressed hope that this would be prioritized.

The President urged Governors to ensure Raj Bhavans reflect Indian ethos and increase public engagement by organizing social and cultural events. She advocated for Raj Bhavans to be accessible to the public, fostering a sense of affinity.

She lauded India’s digital initiatives, recommending their use in Raj Bhavans’ operations to set a good example. Additionally, she suggested Raj Bhavans host seminars on cyber security, data protection, and technological innovation.

Emphasizing the importance of institutional coordination for public welfare and development, President Murmu noted that the conference aimed to enhance coordination among various institutions. As links between the Centre and States, Governors play a crucial role in promoting cooperative federalism and mutual coordination.

In conclusion, President Murmu stated that Governors, by setting examples in important areas, not only establish their identity but also guide the citizens, reinforcing the conference’s theme of mutual learning and cooperation.
