Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival 2024 Kicks Off with Esprimiti

Building on past successes, the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival (HBFF) 2024 edition commenced on Saturday alongside the 4th edition of Esprimiti. Launched with community support in 2014, the festival has grown significantly, thanks to continuous patronage.

The festival was inaugurated at Ethnic Hall, Shilparamam Madhapur, Hitec City, at 10:30 AM by notable dignitaries including Supran Sen, Secretary General of the Film Federation of India; Kishen Rao, IAS; Chandana Khan, IAS & noted painter; Dr. Subir Kumar Chowdhury, Ex-Director, DRDO; Bauddhayan Mukherji, film director; Partha Pratim Mallik, Founder Director of HBFF & Esprimiti; Santanu Mukherjee, Joint Director of the festival; and Oindrila Basu, Joint Director of HBFF & Esprimiti.

Chandana Khan also inaugurated an art exhibition at the same venue during the ceremony.

Event Highlights:

Live Performances, Food Festival, Art & Culture: Both days from 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM at Ethnic Hall, Shilparamam.

Film Screenings: August 4, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Prasad Labs.
Closing Ceremony: August 4 at 7:00 PM at Ethnic Hall, Shilparamam.

 Tribute to Mrinal Sen:
On August 4, the festival will pay homage to the late Mrinal Sen with a screening of “Chalchitra Ekhon” by Anjan Dutt, who worked extensively with Sen. Other films include “Whispers of Fire & Water,” “Niharika,” and “Once Upon a Time in Calcutta.” This tribute underscores the cultural bonds between Telangana and West Bengal.About Partha Pratim Mallik:
Partha Pratim Mallik, a technology evangelist, actor, and model, has been a key figure in Hyderabad for nearly two decades. A disciple of Anupam Kher, Mallik has contributed significantly to Telugu, Hindi, and Bengali cinema, and is instrumental in promoting short films and theatre in Hyderabad and Telangana.About HBFF and Esprimiti:
Founded by Partha Pratim Mallik in 2014, the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival began as an experiment to screen Bengali films in Hyderabad. It has since evolved into India’s first curated Bengali Film Festival, incorporating films from other languages as guest films. In 2019, the festival expanded to include performing arts and poetry, thus integrating Esprimiti into the event. “It is a perfect platform for cultural exchange and independent artists,” said Mallik.The festival has received substantial support from Shilparamam Madhapur, the Department of Language & Culture, Government of Telangana, and the local community.
