New Delhi, 16th Feb. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the significant savings made in the Indian economy due to governance reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Addressing participants of the ‘Special Capacity Building Programme for Senior Civil Servants of Sri Lanka’ in New Delhi, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the extensive use of technology resulting in savings and efficient delivery of utilities and services to the public.
Dr. Jitendra Singh cited the adoption of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) which led to savings of Rs. 1 lakh crore by eliminating middlemen and preventing millions of poor households from starvation during the Covid Pandemic. Additionally, the Government saved Rs. 65,000 crore through the Government E-Marketplace (GeM) portal.
Quoting PM Modi’s emphasis on governance, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that the governance reforms over the last decade have significantly improved work culture and provided an optimum working environment, leading to far-reaching socio-economic benefits. He also emphasized PM Modi’s “Neighbours First” policy and the shared cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka.
The hallmark of governance transformation under PM Modi has been transparency, accountability, and time-bound delivery of services, said the Union Minister. He reiterated PM Modi’s vision of ‘Minimum Government Maximum Governance’ and highlighted women-centric initiatives and zero tolerance towards corruption and terrorism.
Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) as a nodal department for reforms. He highlighted the global recognition of India’s best practices, with countries like South Africa and the United Kingdom adopting similar approaches.
The progress of DARPG was also highlighted, with over 95 percent redressal through CPGRAMS, and the introduction of Human Interface for public feedback and Face Recognition Technology for issuing Digital Life Certificates to ensure uninterrupted pension to genuine beneficiaries.
Mr. Anura Dissanayake, Secretary to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, expressed Sri Lanka’s interest in learning from India’s economic growth and adopting best practices to revive its public sector. The Sri Lankan delegation appreciated India’s progress in implementing digital services and anti-corruption measures.
Secretary, DARPG, and Director-General, NCGG, Shri V. Srinivas, highlighted the collaborative efforts in capacity building for Sri Lankan civil servants, aiming to foster mutual learning and development.
