New Delhi, 8th May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a significant high-level meeting with Secretaries from various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India. The meeting, held in the context of recent developments concerning national security, focused on reviewing the nation’s preparedness and enhancing coordination among different government bodies.
During the session, PM Modi emphasized the critical need for seamless coordination between ministries and agencies to maintain operational continuity and strengthen institutional resilience in the face of evolving national security challenges.
The Prime Minister personally reviewed the planning and preparations undertaken by different ministries to address the current situation. He directed the Secretaries to conduct a comprehensive review of their respective ministry’s operations. A particular focus was placed on ensuring the fool-proof functioning of essential systems, with emphasis on readiness, emergency response protocols, and effective internal communication strategies.
The Secretaries present briefed the Prime Minister on their respective ministries’ planning, highlighting a “Whole of Government” approach to tackling the prevailing scenario. They informed the Prime Minister that all ministries have identified their specific actionables in relation to the current security landscape and are actively strengthening their internal processes to enhance preparedness. The Secretaries assured the Prime Minister of their readiness to deal with all types of emerging situations.
The meeting encompassed discussions on a wide range of crucial issues. Key areas of deliberation included the strengthening of civil defence mechanisms across the country, concerted efforts to counter the spread of misinformation and fake news, and ensuring the robust security of critical infrastructure. Ministries were also advised to maintain close and effective coordination with relevant state authorities and ground-level institutions to ensure a unified national response.
The high-powered meeting was attended by the Cabinet Secretary, senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Secretaries of key ministries, including Defence, Home Affairs, External Affairs, Information & Broadcasting, Power, Health, and Telecommunications.
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Modi called for continued vigilance and alertness across all government bodies. He stressed the importance of institutional synergy and clear lines of communication as the nation navigates this sensitive period. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the government to upholding national security, maintaining a high state of operational preparedness, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.
