Ranchi, 31st Jan.
An Enforcement Directorate (ED) team arrived at the home of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Ranchi this morning to question him about a money laundering scam.

This comes after Soren went missing from his Delhi residence and reappeared in his state.

Outside his home, there was a large convoy of vehicles, some with security personnel inside, that were stopped by armed security personnel from Soren’s side.

After a brief conversation, the vehicles were allowed to enter the premises. It is expected that Soren will be accompanied by MLAs from his party, JMM, during the questioning.

The agency had previously questioned Soren on January 20 and issued a second summons for this week. If Soren does not select a date, the agency will take action on its own.

Last week, Soren had announced that he would be available at his Ranchi home on January 31. However, before that, he flew into Delhi on a private plane and then disappeared from his home in the national capital.

He reportedly took a secretive road trip back home. The ED searched Soren’s Delhi home on Monday but did not find him. They did, however, seize ₹36 lakh in cash and his luxury SUV.

Soren is being questioned as part of an investigation into an illegal land ownership change racket in Jharkhand. Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with this case so far.

There is speculation that Soren’s wife may be installed as the Chief Minister if he is jailed, but there are legal hurdles since she is not a member of the Assembly and there is no time for a bypoll.
