Dr Indira Hridayesh, leader of opposition cremated with full state honour at Chitrashila ghat of Rani bagh, near Haldwani

Pithoragarh, 13th June. Dr Indira Hridayesh, leader of opposition in the state assembly and veteran Congress leader, today cremated with full state honour at Chitrashila ghat of Rani bagh, near Haldwani on Monday.
Dr Hridayesh, who had died, in New Delhi on Sunday was given Bid adieu by thousands of her followers from Haldwani and across districts of the Kumaon region. State chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat, other cabinet ministers, scores of Congress leaders including, Harish Rawat and state Congress chief Pritam Singh were present at the time of cremation.


State chief minister, Tirath Singh Rawat said on the occasion that Dr Hridayesh was a guide to all legislatures in the state Assembly. “Though politically we are in opposition parties, she used to give timely advice to every like an elder sister,” said the chief minister.


Congress leader Harish Rawat said that she left for her heavenly abode when congress was in most need of her matured advice. “We can Not compensate her loss, “said Rawat.
Born in 1941, in Dasauli village of Pithoragarh district, Indira entered into UP politics in the year 1974, through teacher’s quota in state legislative council and later came into a touch with veteran congress leader ND Tiwari, from where she learnt high standard of parliamentary traditional and politics of development.

“She was a pillar of democracy in state politics and will be remembered for her acumen for developmental politics,” said Yashpal Arya the state cabinet minister and a longtime companion of Dr Hridayesh, during her congress days.
