DCGI Approves Emergency Use of Anti Covid Drug 2-DG

New Delhi, 8th May. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the emergency use of the therapeutic application of 2-DG drug (2-deoxy-D-glucose). It is believed that this will give mild relief to the patients of Corona.

This medicine can be used to treat corona patients with moderate to severe symptoms. DRDO stated that being a common molecule and an analogue of glucose, it can be easily produced and made available. This drug is made by DRDO Lab Institute and Doctor Reddy Lab jointly.

Trial of this drug suggests that the molecule in the drug helps in rapid recovery of hospitalized patients and reduces oxygen dependence. RT-PCR reports have been seen to be negative after the use of 2-DG drug. DRDO gave information about this. This medicine comes in the form of powder and can be taken with water or dissolving in water. This drug accumulates in virus infected cells and inhibits the growth of the virus.
