Singh, who previously declined a BJP ticket for the Asansol constituency in West Bengal, is now in the fray for the Karakat Lok Sabha seat in Bihar. His decision to contest against the official NDA candidate, former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha, has led to his suspension from the party.
In a letter addressed to Singh, the BJP’s Bihar unit cited his actions as detrimental to the party’s reputation and a violation of party discipline. The decision to suspend him was made by Bihar BJP president Samrat Chaudhary.
Additionally, Singh’s mother, Pratima Singh, has also filed nomination papers from the same constituency as an independent candidate.
The Karakat constituency is scheduled to vote on June 1, marking the final phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
In defense of his decision, Pawan Singh stated that he is contesting the elections to fulfill a promise made to his mother and society. His candidacy from Asansol was withdrawn earlier, without specifying reasons, amidst criticism from the Trinamool Congress regarding the content of some of his songs, which they deemed objectionable.
