BJP Candidate Accuses Masjids of Issuing Fatwas in Favor of Congress in Solapur

Solapur, 24th April.
In a contentious turn of events in Maharashtra’s Solapur, masjids have been accused of issuing fatwas in support of the Congress party, according to allegations made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ram Satpute.

Reports emerging from Solapur suggest that masjids, along with AIMIM, the political outfit led by Asaduddin Owaisi, are allegedly backing the Congress candidate in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The absence of an AIMIM candidate in Solapur, purportedly aimed at “saving the constitution,” has raised eyebrows, with Solapur AIMIM chief Farukh Shabdi clarifying the party’s stance in a press conference. It’s noteworthy that in the 2019 elections, AIMIM allied with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), with VBA’s Prakash Ambedkar as the candidate.

Ram Satpute, the BJP candidate, leveled these accusations during media interactions following his participation in Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations. He claimed that the Congress has aligned itself with “Jihadi elements” in its bid to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

According to Ram, AIMIM’s decision not to field a candidate in Solapur is perceived as indirect support for Congress. He further alleged that “Mullas and Maulvis” in local masjids are issuing fatwas instructing Muslims to vote for Congress.

Ram Satpute went on to assert that these alleged fatwas are galvanizing the Hindu community to rally behind PM Narendra Modi in defense of the constitution. He claimed that masjids in Solapur are disseminating these fatwas alongside numerous Urdu pamphlets.

Ram urged the public to stand in solidarity with PM Modi and resist what he perceives as attempts by certain religious institutions to influence electoral outcomes.

As the political atmosphere heats up in Solapur ahead of the elections, these accusations have intensified the discourse, raising questions about the role of religious institutions in electoral politics and the dynamics of alliances in the region.
