Mumbai, 22nd April.
The Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has unveiled its manifesto, affirming its support for a caste-based census, diverging from its ally BJP’s stance. Despite aligning with the BJP and Shiv Sena, Ajit Pawar emphasized his unwavering commitment to his ideologies.

In a statement reflecting the party’s ethos, the NCP manifesto asserts, “Our party believes in the right to live as a human irrespective of caste, creed and religion.” It further underscores the party’s dedication to social reform and inclusivity, citing the words of renowned reformer Sane Guruji.

Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, reiterated his adherence to his principles, stating, “Though I am part of Mahayuti, I have not left my ideologies.” His affirmation comes amidst speculation about ideological shifts following the alliance formation.

While echoing the BJP’s slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” the NCP manifesto also advocates for conferring Bharat Ratna upon late Yashwantrao Chavan and securing classical language status for Marathi.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Ajit Pawar expressed confidence in Modi’s ability to secure victory in the elections. This acknowledgment underscores the complex dynamics within the alliance and the strategic positioning of the NCP.

The NCP’s support of a caste census, despite its coalition with the NDA, contrasts with the BJP’s cautious approach to the issue. While the Congress has been vocal in advocating for a comprehensive caste survey, the BJP has emphasized the need for careful deliberation.

The backdrop of the NCP’s split, with factions led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar contesting from separate camps within the NDA and INDIA blocs respectively, adds layers to the political landscape of Maharashtra.
