Advance Weather Alert Sounded in the Pithoragarh District

Pithoragarh, 18th May. Taking cognizance of heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms in some districts of the state, an advance alert has been sounded in Pithoragarh district which is overly sensitive to natural disasters triggering due heavy rains, said Anand Swaroop Pithoragarh district magistrate.
“In view of the weather department forecast of heavy rains in the district on 20 and 22nd May, we have called an emergency meeting of departments involved in road construction work construct roads and informed the about the situation and directed them to do the needful. “said the DM.
According to DM Pithoragarh, the instructions have been given to SDMs, PWD and Border roads organization to remain alert to the situation and clear the blockade on the roads without any delay. If any road is blocked due to the mud debris immediately after heavy rains, an effort should be made to minimise inconvenience to the people. “We have also sought cooperation from Army, SSB and ITBP in such disastrous situation if it occurs in the district and requested them to remain alert and ready if called for help. “said the DM Pithoragarh.
According to the weather department, the heavy rains forecast in the district to begin from today late evening, is an effect of Tauktae cyclone that is rocking the western coast of the country present. “we have instructed to road constructing departments to prepare a plan to lessen the damage from landslides points of view, on the roads and ensure to deploy the machinery at the sensitive zones in terms of disaster. “said the DM Pithoragarh.
