A village in district Tehri succeeds in keeping the Covid 19 virus away.

Dehradun, 22nd May. The residents of Koldhar village in district Tehri have proven the saying “Adversities makes man more dynamic” true as they have succeeded in keeping the Covid-19 virus at bay through sheer hard work, discipline, and awareness. While the villages in the rest of Uttarakhand are reeling under the surge of the second Covid-19 virus wave the villagers from Koldhar have ensured that the Covid-19 virus does not get an entry in their village.
With not a single infected till date the villagers live in peace and that to without any fear of it spreading here in the village baffling not only other villagers and setting an example for the administration showing that where there is will there is a way.
The answer to this success is basic wisdom and discipline. Former village Pradhan Surendra Dutt Uniyal says that the only way to defeat the Covid 19 virus was to ensure that everybody stayed at home. The villagers followed the Covid 19 virus guidelines with due diligence and to start with they requested the villagers to cancel or postpone the marriages that fell during this period, added Uniyal.
We have around 100 families in our village out of which some have migrated permanently 60% live permanently. The families that have migrated temporarily were asked to stay wherever they were and they avoid the village said Uniyal.
Gram Pradhan Lalita Devi who was elected on the reserved quota is leading this fight from the front She said, “I am providing masks and other items to the villagers at their homes on regular basis with the message of maintaining safe distance”.
She is pleased that the villagers adhered to the guidelines and followed a strict regimen which was difficult considering that mist of the people belong to poor strata and needed to go out to work on daily basis.
The outsiders who entered the village were quarantined at a separate place where all the arrangements of food and stay were made by the villagers said, Lalita Devi.
The Pipal tree that was planted by the elderly people right at the centre of the village served as an Oxygen concentrator which provided the much-needed oxygen to the people here thus keeping the dreaded virus at bay in the village through sheer resilience.
The villagers from Koldhar in district Tehri through a resolve have been able to keep the surroundings clean and maintain a healthy environment which has meant that not a single case of Covid 19 positive has been reported so far. The social Activists have hailed the efforts of the villagers and said that it should serve as inspiration for other villages in the state.
Purshotam Bhatt the president of a social organisation Apna Parivar in the state said, “it is indeed commendable that when the villages are feeling the heat due to Covid-19 virus surge in the village the villagers from Koldhar have been able to counter it through effective preventive measures.”, The government should take cognizance and reward the village so that it becomes an example for other to follow, added Purshotam Bhatt.
Apna Parivar is ready to provide any kind of assistance to the villages who work towards keeping the villages free of the Covid 19 virus, said Purshotam Bhatt.
