AAP’s Kejriwal Signals Intent to Contest All Delhi Seats, Strains Opposition Unity
Aam Aadmi Party's Decision Adds Complexity to Opposition Dynamics

New Delhi, 12th Feb. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest all seven seats in the upcoming Delhi elections, signaling a departure from potential alliances with other parties, particularly the Congress. Kejriwal justified the decision by stating it was reflective of the will of the people of Delhi.
The AAP’s decision to go solo in Delhi follows their unilateral announcement to contest all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, further complicating the opposition’s unity ahead of the elections.
This move deals a blow to the Congress, which had hoped to contest at least a portion of Delhi’s seats. It also reflects broader strains within the opposition alliance, INDIA, with parties failing to reach consensus on seat sharing arrangements.
In other key states, such as Punjab and Bengal, the Congress has faced setbacks, with opposition parties AAP and Trinamool Congress opting to go solo, weakening the cohesion of the opposition front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
As the political landscape continues to evolve, AAP’s decision reshapes the dynamics of opposition politics in Delhi and Punjab, adding further complexity to an already turbulent electoral environment.
