Lucknow, 5th April. The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested three men near the Nepal border who were allegedly planning to carry out terrorist activities in India, as per officials.
The group consisted of two Pakistani nationals who were found with fake Indian identity documents, as stated by the ATS. Acting on intelligence that terrorists were planning to enter India through the Indo-Nepal border, the Gorakhpur ATS unit was put on high alert. The unit successfully apprehended the three suspects as they were crossing the border, the statement explained.
The individuals have been identified as Mohammad Altaf Bhatt from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Sayyed Gajnafar from Islamabad, and Nasir Ali from Jammu and Kashmir.
The arrests took place at the Indo-Nepal border in Sonauli, Maharajganj district. Bhatt and Gajnafar met in Kathmandu, where they obtained forged Indian documents, including Aadhar cards. They then connected with Ali, who was responsible for guiding them to Kashmir through the border.
Mohammad Altaf Bhatt revealed to ATS officials that he received training at a Hizbul Mujahideen camp in Muzaffarabad with the support of ISI, aiming to free Kashmir from India. Bhatt was en route to Jammu and Kashmir under ISI orders to carry out terrorist activities.
The ATS seized fake Indian documents, Pakistani documents, and passports from the suspects. An FIR has been filed against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating, criminal conspiracy, and waging war against the Government of India. The investigation is ongoing.
