New Delhi, 14th Jan: In a major crackdown on synthetic drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized a record 270 kg of Mephedrone — popularly known as ‘Meow Meow’ — worth ₹81 crore in the illicit market and dismantled a well-organised, multi-state narcotics syndicate operating across northern India.
The seizure was made during a meticulously planned operation conducted between January 11 and 12, 2026. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted a truck in Rajasthan that was ostensibly transporting agro-based goods. A thorough inspection revealed that the truck was actually carrying 270 kg of Mephedrone ingeniously concealed within a consignment of chicken feed — a novel cover adopted by traffickers to evade detection.
The driver of the truck and the escorts accompanying the consignment were apprehended on the spot. Subsequent follow-up searches at multiple locations in Haryana led to the arrest of other key syndicate members who were involved in the manufacture and supply of the narcotic substance. A dismantled clandestine drug manufacturing unit was also uncovered, along with recovery of raw materials used in production.
Officials said the operation involved extensive inter-state coordination and precise execution, exposing a well-structured drug network spanning several states.
In the current financial year 2025–26 alone, the DRI has busted six illegal factories manufacturing synthetic drugs including Mephedrone, Alprazolam and Methamphetamine across Latur, Bhopal, Wardha, Vapi, Hyderabad and Greater Noida.
Reiterating its commitment to the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’, the DRI said drugs pose a grave threat to public health, national security and the socio-economic fabric of the nation, and intelligence-driven enforcement will continue to be intensified to curb the menace.
