Amaravati, 3rd Nov: A fierce political storm has erupted in Andhra Pradesh following the arrest of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former minister Jogi Ramesh in connection with an adulterated liquor case. The party accused the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government of orchestrating a political vendetta against its leaders.

Ramesh was taken into custody on Sunday by a joint team of the Excise Department, Special Investigation Team (SIT), and local police. He was produced in court later that evening. Authorities allege Ramesh and his associates were linked to a spurious liquor manufacturing and distribution network. Earlier, the main accused, Janatdhan Rao, was arrested and reportedly named Ramesh during interrogation.

The YSRCP, however, rejected the charges, calling them fabricated. “TDP leaders were caught red-handed. To cover up their crime, they have manufactured a fake narrative and dragged Jogi Ramesh into it,” the party said in a statement, terming the arrest “a blatant act of political revenge” and “abuse of power by the coalition government.”

The party further noted that Ramesh had earlier sought a CBI probe and approached the High Court, arguing that his arrest despite these actions pointed to a “deliberate conspiracy” to malign him.

Meanwhile, the TDP dismissed the allegations, stating that “the law will take its own course” and that the government has no involvement in the arrest.

Ramesh is also under investigation in connection with a 2021 attack on Chandrababu Naidu’s residence at Undavalli, adding another layer of political tension between the two parties.
