Chennai, 2nd Jan: Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday called upon the youth to play a central role in building Viksit Bharat@2047, stressing that continuous learning and ethical leadership are essential in an era shaped by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Addressing the 34th Convocation Ceremony of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute in Chennai as the Chief Guest, the Vice-President congratulated graduating students and said the convocation marked the beginning of a new phase of responsibility and opportunity.
Extending New Year greetings, he expressed confidence that the graduates would contribute positively to society through professional competence, compassion and commitment. Recalling Tamil Nadu’s historic role as a centre of learning and maritime trade, he said merchants from the region had carried India’s ideas, ethics and culture across the world, reflecting the nation’s civilisational openness.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, Shri Radhakrishnan said achieving the goal would require active participation from every citizen, especially the youth. He urged students to meaningfully contribute to nation-building.
Highlighting rapid technological changes, he said artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are transforming all sectors and stressed the importance of continuous upskilling. He encouraged graduates to adopt a lifelong learning mindset and engage with new technologies beyond their core disciplines.
Emphasising value-based education, the Vice-President said academic excellence must be rooted in ethics, integrity and social responsibility. Advising students on life beyond campus, he said success and failure are integral to life and urged them to face both with resilience, mental strength and balance, discouraging shortcuts and unhealthy comparisons.
The event was attended by Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, Chancellor of the institute Dr. A. C. Shanmugam and other dignitaries.
