New Delhi: A group of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers from the 2023 batch, currently serving as Assistant Secretaries in various Union Ministries and Departments, met President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre on April 15.
In her address, President Murmu commended the officers for their exceptional dedication and hard work that led them to one of the highest positions in public service. She emphasized that this achievement marked a turning point not only in their personal lives but also in their ability to create transformative impact in the lives of citizens—right from their first postings.
Urging the officers to work for the upliftment of the underprivileged, the President advised them to revisit their places of posting during their career to witness the long-term impact of their efforts. She reminded them that while civil servants have certain rights, their duties remain paramount, with honesty, sensitivity, and integrity being the cornerstone of their profession.
“Your real career story will be written not by the number of social media followers, but by the quality of your work,” President Murmu remarked. She further stressed that honesty is the most desirable policy in public service, and it is expected that civil servants lead by example through their integrity and values.
Addressing broader challenges such as climate change and moral erosion, the President noted that public servants must act as beacons of ethical conduct. In a digital era where public expectations are rising, she encouraged the officers to remain connected to the people, involve themselves in local efforts, and proactively address issues raised by elected representatives.
She concluded by stating that the development and public welfare initiatives taken at the grassroots level would significantly contribute toward the achievement of India’s national goals.
