New Delhi, 24th Dec: The probationers of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) 2024 batch called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday.
Addressing the young officers, the President said that IDAS officers hold a critical responsibility in managing the financial resources of the Indian Armed Forces and allied organisations. She noted that their duties — ranging from budgeting and accounting to audit, payments, financial advisory and ensuring transparency — directly impact the operational readiness of the military and the development of defence infrastructure.
President Murmu urged the officers to understand the unique challenges and operational realities faced by the Armed Forces while discharging their responsibilities.
Highlighting the rapidly changing geopolitical environment and emerging security challenges, the President said that defence-related financial decision-making must now be quicker, smarter and more technology-driven. She emphasised the need for continuous innovation, modernisation and adaptation within the Defence Accounts Department.
The President also called upon the officers to actively support the Government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan by encouraging indigenous defence production, strengthening local supply chains and promoting domestic industry, thereby contributing to a self-reliant and resilient defence ecosystem.
Urging them to remain lifelong learners, she said the true measure of public service lies not in rank or recognition, but in steady and sincere contribution to institutional effectiveness and citizen welfare.
